Mono-printing over pre-painted surface...

Adding mono-printing to painted cloth can add depth and interest. I hope you enjoy this brief pictorial tutorial.

mono-printing plate of 4 ml painters plastic,  cut to cover area  to be surface designed

place plastic directly on top of area you wish to mono-print over.
The plastic gives a clear view. Apply thick paint. Try spreading with old plastic card.

draw into the paint with a recycled hardened eraser on a old pencil or
 anything else that will give you the result you want. Experiment! 

flip and place on desired area

brayer firmly and peel corner to peek. if needed brayer more.

remove plastic to reveal mono-print

finished and ready for next step

Easy Stencil Creation

I've had success making my own stencils with 4ml painters plastic. 

There is even heavier weight plastic you can choose to use. 
They're lightweight, easy to clean & store. If you need them slightly stiffer, tape edges with heavy duty duck tape. 
Nice too since they're transparent, you can place over design and trace. 

 If you want to repeat your stencil designs, they're thin enough to use as a mask for silkscreens.

Altered T-Shirts

OK I'm sloppy. I paint, glue or dye and it always ends up on my shirt. I wipe my wet fingers there too. What to do? I hate to toss them but I feel like it looks so dirty- even after washing. SO!
I got out my paint brush, textile paints and did some free painting.

Simple Fun! And now I don't look sloppy! Did 4 more after these!

Whole cloth; painted, monoprinted, text silk-screened, oil sticks and free drawing lines with stitching. I was in a meditative place when I created this piece. When I view it, it serves as a reminder of that special moment. It allows me to remember this when in the throes of daily life. Rayon 23hx30w Traveling with SAQA 09 Fibrations until 6/10

I have been working on an upcoming workshop- I usually review and improve every time I give a workshop. It also jogs one's memory. I REALLY like this process! It's a spontaneous print technique that layers fabrics visually.

In the workshops we will experiment with several techniques to print fabrics. This method doesn't use a print press and is suitable for every level.

One of the best things about this technique is it's spontaneity, intuitiveness and ease of developing really great pieces. Right up my ally!

It will be hard to cover the sheer variety of methods, but we'll all give it a go.
