Remembering your Voice, Finally!

Open Windows 1997
When do you start to listen to your own voice?
When the hollows of your check begin to sag and
you realize the gift of life?
When the voices grow so loud, you can't ignore them
anymore?
When the desire to create overtakes the desire to be 'good'?
Or when you see a process you started once upon a time and nobody thought much of it and you stopped because you listened to them?!
You did!
Why!

The construction of Open Windows is very similar to the digital work I am doing now- doing work in segments. This was done in sections with hand dyed cottons and wools. Each segment was created separately but in unison.  Intuitive curved piecing and applied "free appliqué". Encouraged hanging threads and fabric. It was not accepted in many shows then and was 'retired'. Today, I attended an opening today in Philly and there was a piece there that reminded me of this work. Maybe I should update it a bit and send it back out into the world!
What do you think?

Stone's Breath

What comes to open space is as real as
what leaves the open spirit.
No intention.
light, shadow, line, sound.
shared natures sensing boundless energy.
When the mind rests, 'work' begins. -- Nancy Neva Gagliano

Georgia

“Sometimes people have the idea that art should be highly refined.
But I always believed that one could make art out of simple, humble
things. Small things can be transcendental. They can change our way
of looking at the world. I think it’s important to make art out of
almost anything”. Antoni Tapies.

Moon Fog

I decided to change one or my mounted FiberArt pieces. Since it is already mounted, I needed to work the piece so the changes didn't interfere with the stretch that mounting requires.
I decided the edges were the parts that I didn't like the most. And the piece needed unification.
I laid a light muted glaze very quickly over the main body first. Then, I applied a opaque flake medium to three edges, in different amounts, to keep the fiber/texture quality. I went over that in paint and added a couple layers of free script, one of my trademarks.
Here's before...

And After...

Color Ride

rolling with the wind, the silk flows and ebbs, sending colors soaring, and me exploring.
